HK probes Finnair jet takeoff attempt from taxiway

Associated Press, Hong Kong | Fri, 12/24/2010 9:37 AM | World

Authorities in Hong Kong have launched an investigation into an incident last month in which a Finnair jet made a wrong turn onto a taxiway and attempted to take off.

The Civil Aviation Department says the Airbus A340-300 bound for Helsinki turned onto the taxiway at Hong Kong International Airport in the early hours of Nov. 27. An air traffic controller realized there was something wrong, told the pilot to stop rolling and aborted the takeoff in time. No one was injured.

The department released a preliminary report Thursday. It said more in-depth investigation will be done "before any conclusions can be drawn."
