The Banjarbaru Police precinct in South Kalimantan has conducted security checks at several churches in preparation of Christmas celebrations.

The Banjarbaru Police’s head of operations, AKP Made Suarjana, said the checks were conducted to anticipate unwanted incidents.

He added that the South Kalimantan Mobile Brigade bomb squad (Brimob) would assist in performing security checks at two large churches.

“Sweeps will be conducted on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so Christians can conduct Christmas Mass in peace and comfort,” he said as reported by Antara news service.

Another five churches will be heavily guarded by 10 police officers the day before and after Christmas celebrations, he added.
