KPK to disclose assessment of PSSI funds

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 04/05/2011 9:36 AM | National

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is scheduled on Tuesday to disclose results of its assessment of the management of funds received by the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI), a KPK official said Tuesday.

The announcement of the assessment results will be done at the KPK headquarters in Kuningan, Jakarta, KPK spokesman Johan Budi said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

“The disclosure will be led by KPK chairmen at 10 a.m.”

Johan said the announcement would be witnessed by Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malarangeng, Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi and National Sports Council chairwoman Rita Subowo.

Funds assessed by the KPK are donations received from both the central and regional governments. The assessment was carried out in efforts to uncover the possible misappropriation of funds by PSSI executives.

The government has denounced the leadership of PSSI under chairman Nurdin Halid and secretary-general Nugraha Besoes, because of perceived failures in hosting an election to appoint a new chairman.

With the decision, the government postponed all future funding and forbid the National Police from facilitating PSSI activities under the leadership of Nurdin and Nugraha.
