Debt collectors show weakness in law enforcement, says Susno

Former National Police Chief Detective and prominent graft case whistle-blower Comr. Gen. Susno Duaji said the presence of debt collectors in the banking business was because of legal uncertainties.

A release from Susno says debt collectors are evidence of the lack of public trust in law enforcers, tribunnews.com reports.

A politician was found dead last week at a Citibank branch in South Jakarta, after he was allegedly killed by debt collectors in response to his complaint about a credit card debt.

Police have named four suspects in the case.

Susno said that the legal system, particularly means to settle civil and debt cases, needs to be improved to prevent further violence by debt collectors.

“Not only that, officers' morality is also pivotal,” he said.
