Surabaya police to guard 320 churches for holiday

The Surabaya Police say more than 2,500 officers will guard public places, malls, offices and 320 churches for New Year's Eve on Friday.

The police would also block roads and reroute traffic at 26 hot spots to stop traffic tie-ups, Surabaya Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Wiwik Setyaningsih said.

“If the city becomes too crowed, we will seal off all entrances to the city,” he said, as reported by tempointeraktif.com.

Wiwik said police would fine motorcyclists whose bikes had loud or modified exhausts and drivers operating without side mirrors or headlights lamps.

“If they brazenly [drive] without no exhaust pipes – or with small, noisy ones – we will definitely give them tickets,” he said.
