Recent heavy rains caused the Bengawan Solo River, flowing through central and eastern Java, to flood on Tuesday, submerging some areas in water up to 5 meters deep, including 150 houses in Putat village, Surakarta municipality.

Floodwaters began to enter the village early on Tuesday morning and had not receded until 7.15 a.m., forcing villagers to evacuate to higher ground where they had set up tents, Antara reported.

Some flood victims have also been evacuated to Mojosongo subdistrict in Surakarta municipality.
