Canadian telco Research in Motion (RIM) has expressed its commitment to extending its investment in Indonesia in the future amid a recent feud with Indonesian Information and Communication Minister Tifatul Sembiring over several issues.

The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) approved RIM Indonesia’s operating license as of November last year, RIM Southeast Asia director Gregory Wade said Thursday, as quoted by kompas.com.

During his opening address for the BlackBerry Devcon Asia 2011 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday, Wade said BlackBerry had pledged to continue investing in Indonesia.

Wade also mentioned that some of RIM’s programs in Indonesia included ventures with several Indonesian universities to improve human resources, as well as partnership programs to develop applications.

Wade also said the Canadian-based company would respect the government’s to filter some Internet content.

Tifatul had demanded RIM filter pornographic content that is currently available using BlackBerry handsets. The minister also demanded RIM set up a data center in Indonesia.

On Tuesday, the company announced it would bow to the demands.
