The National Police say they will focus on securing regions with big celebrations during New Year's Eve on Friday.
“We will prioritize [areas that attract] large crowds such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Bali and Manado,” National Police deputy spokesman Brig. Gen. I Ketut Untung Yoga Ana, said Friday in Jakarta.
In Jakarta alone, 8,000 police officers would be on the job on Friday night, according to Yoga.
“For Jakarta, the places to be prioritized will still be places of worship...as well as locations where New Year's Eve celebrations will be held,” Yoga said.
National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo has been monitoring the traffic situation from the air.
“He will stop at Bakahuni to see how things are moving...crossing over to Merak and Bakahuni Port, as well as the Pantura [Northern coastal highway],” Yoga said.
