Judicial Commission to question ballistics expert

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 05/18/2011 12:04 PM | National

The Judicial Commission is scheduled on Wednesday to question a ballistics expert in relation to a murder allegedly involving former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar.

The meeting with the ballistics expert Maruli was scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.

The Judicial Commission has summoned Maruli twice previously but he was unable to attend earlier meetings, Judicial Commission spokesman Asep Rahmat Fajar said Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com

The commission has examined a report filed by Antasari's team of lawyers, which alleges that judges who presided over Antasari's trial at South Jakarta District Court committed ethical violations by ignoring evidence presented by forensics, IT and ballistic experts.

Police need clear working standard: Commission

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 01/19/2011 9:39 AM | National

The National Police Commission on Wednesday ordered the police to set up a clear working standard so the public could learn about improvements to police services.

“This is to fulfill public expectations, because people always expect a lot from the police, while the police face various problems and limitations regarding their capacity in providing these services,” commission member Novel Ali said Wednesday in Semarang, Central Java, as quoted by Antara.

Novel said that with a clear working standard, deadlines could be set for case investigations, especially for police criminal detectives.

The public had the right to demand better services if they were not satisfied with the police performance, he said.

50 train accidents in 2010: Safety commission

Nani Afrida, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 12/28/2010 2:49 PM | National

The National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) on Tuesday announced that there had been 50 train accidents in Indonesia this year, down from the 82 cases in 2009.

“In 2010, train accidents killed 60 people and injured 189,” KNKT chairman Tatang Kurniadi said in Jakarta, adding that technical matters were the main causes of the accidents.

Of the 50 cases, KNKT had only investigated ten, which were classified as severe accidents, Tatang said.

“For these cases we issued 11 recommendations to the directorate general of trains at the Transportation Ministry and to state railway company PT KA.” He said.
