Nazaruddin prison transfer unnecessary, says judicial taskforce

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 08/29/2011 9:22 AM

Two members of the Judicial Corruption Taskforce have criticized Nazaruddin’s jail transfer request over safety concerns, which they say are unwarranted.

“We see that the police have installed a good and strict security system that can protect Nazaruddin against any threats. We fail to see what has made him feel unsafe,” taskforce member Mas Achmad Santosa said Sunday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Achmad added that Nazaruddin's cell was being monitored by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) with 17 CCTV cameras, and guarded with 24-hour security by mobile police brigade personnel.

Earlier, through his lawyer OC Kaligis, Nazaruddin, who is now jailed at the National Police's mobile brigade detention center in Depok, stated that he would only cooperate with KPK investigators if he was transferred to another detention facility, such as Cipinang Penitentiary or Salemba prison.

Nazaruddin said the sole reason behind the jail transfer request was because he felt his safety had been compromised.

Judicial Commission to question ballistics expert

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 05/18/2011 12:04 PM | National

The Judicial Commission is scheduled on Wednesday to question a ballistics expert in relation to a murder allegedly involving former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar.

The meeting with the ballistics expert Maruli was scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.

The Judicial Commission has summoned Maruli twice previously but he was unable to attend earlier meetings, Judicial Commission spokesman Asep Rahmat Fajar said Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com

The commission has examined a report filed by Antasari's team of lawyers, which alleges that judges who presided over Antasari's trial at South Jakarta District Court committed ethical violations by ignoring evidence presented by forensics, IT and ballistic experts.

Gayus court statement to corner Judicial Task Force: Prosecutor

Mariel Grazella, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sat, 01/22/2011 8:46 AM | Headlines

Vice-Attorney General Darmono says that statements made by tax graft convict Gayus H. Tambunan were aimed to corner the Judicial Mafia Taskforce.

"I observe that there have been efforts in that direction," he said on Friday.

He added that the AGO had clarified to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono allegations made by Gayus.

Gayus claimed that law enforcers were reluctant to legally process prosecutor Cirus Sinaga out of fear that Cirus would reveal "the truth" behind the case of convicted former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar.

"We have said that what Gayus delivered in court is all untrue," he added. "We have delivered the facts and evidence [related to the allegations]."
