The nation’s military chief has cleared the way for Indonesian Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Toissuta to run for chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).
“It's okay. I myself am currently chairman of the Indonesian Waterskiing Association. So [his nomination] is no problem,” Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Adm. Agus Suhartono said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
The Indonesian National Football Reform Movement (GRSNI) is expected to release a declaration on Wednesday at Indonesian Army headquarters in Central Jakarta drafting Toissuta to run for the PSSI’s top slot.
The PSSI will elect a new chairman at its congress in Bintan, Riau Islands in April. Two-term incumbent chairman Nurdin Halidis is reportedly seeking a third term, despite protests aimed at him after the Indonesian national team lost in the ASEAN Football Federation Cup finals in 2010.
