The Sukabumi Disaster Mitigation Agency has recorded 11 landslides in Sukabumi, West Java, in the first five days of November as of Saturday, damaging at least 20 houses.

Agency deputy head for logistics and emergency situations Usman Susilo said the landslides had occurred in Cidadap, Bantargadung, Warungkiara, Nyalindung, Parungkuda, Kadudampit Gunungguruh and Cibadak districts.

“Three districts -Bantargadung, Warungkiara and Kadudampit- experienced two landslides each. The total number of houses damaged by the landslides is 20, consisting of those lightly, moderately and severely damaged,” Usman said on Saturday in Sukabumi, as quoted by Antara.

None of the landslides, fortunately, took any human toll, although they have caused hundreds of millions of rupiah in estimated losses.

“We’ve channelled emergency aid, such as bathing and sleeping equipment, as well as food. But we haven’t so far provided shelters for evacuees,” Usman said, as quoted by Antara.

He said the evacuees were currently staying in mosques or their neighbors' or relatives’ homes.

Usman added 33 out of Sukabumi’s 47 districts were currently deemed prone to landslides, up from 13 districts considered so during last year’s wet season.

The increase, he said, is attributable to higher rain intensity and illegal logging.
