Riedl poised on RI’s edge against Turkmenistan

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 02/16/2011 11:52 AM | Sports

National football team coach Alfred Riedl has expressed optimism that Indonesia can win in its upcoming match against Turkmenistan in the pre-olimpic games on Feb. 23, although he is uncertain about the strength of the opposition.

“I have not seen any videos of Turkmenistan’s games, but if you look online you can find articles containing information about them,” Riedl said Wednesday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Riedl said he wasn't sure about the Turkmenistan team’s strength.

"In terms of [individual skills], we are equal. In fact I think we are probably better," he said.

Riedl said Indonesian players should watch out for Turkmenistan's taller players since they could be a threat to Indonesia’s defense.

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 01/17/2011 10:48 AM | Sports

Indonesian National Soccer Team coach Alfred Riedl is expected to make his final selection of 25 players for the pre-Olympic national squad, to be announced by National Team chairman Iman Arif on Monday afternoon.

Today is the last day for Riedl to select players.

“We will discuss [selections] tomorrow. Iman Arif will announce [the results] after practice tomorrow afternoon. The first thing I will announce is which players are selected for the pre-Olympics,” Riedl said Sunday as quoted by tribunnews.com.

As reported earlier, the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) has begun selections for the national U-23 team for the Southeast Asian Games 2011 and pre-qualifying round for the 2012 Olympic Games at Senayan Sports Complex field C in Central Jakarta.

The announcement for the 2012 pre-Olympic Games team is expected to be made today, while the announcement of players in the 2011 Sea Games team will be on March 15.

Riedl focused on players’ mental recovery

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Tue, 12/28/2010 2:53 PM | Sports Indonesian national soccer team coach Alfred Rield says he is focusing on rebuilding player confidence ahead of Wednesday’s second leg of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup finals against Malaysia.

“You can’t change many things in just three days,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.

“My players and I talked to each other. That is more important now than practicing.”

Indonesia lost 0-3 to Malaysia in the first leg of the finals, which was marred by laser pointers and saw Indonesian team affected by itching powder.

Riedl said he wanted to strengthen players’ mentality not only for the AFF Cup, but also for the Olympic Games qualifications next year.
